1. China’s space station in the South China Sea:
China has approved the construction of a deep-sea space
station in the South China Sea to enhance its scientific research and
strengthen its strategic presence in the region. This will help China study the
deep-sea ecosystem, energy resources and advances in underwater technology.

2. Kotak Mahindra Bank business restrictions lifted:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has lifted business
restrictions on Kotak Mahindra Bank, allowing it to resume and expand its
financial services without regulatory constraints. The decision will allow the
bank to improve its operations and introduce new banking products.

3. 14th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum:
The 14th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum was recently
held in New Delhi, focusing on innovation, sustainability and technological
advancements in fisheries and aquaculture. The event brought together
researchers, policymakers and industry experts to discuss future developments.

4. ATDC and SECL MoU for Youth Empowerment:
The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) and South
Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) signed a MoU to provide skill training and
employment to 400 unemployed youth from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The
initiative aims to increase vocational education and job opportunities in these
states.

5. National Traders Welfare Board Meeting:
The 5th meeting of the National Traders Welfare Board was
held in New Delhi to discuss and implement policies aimed at improving the
business environment for traders in India. The meeting focused on ease of doing
business, financial assistance and tax reforms for small and medium
enterprises.

6. First ‘America Gulf Day’ on February 9:
Former US President Donald Trump declared February 9 as
“America Gulf Day” to recognize the historical and economic
importance of the Gulf region. The day aims to raise awareness about the
environmental and commercial importance of the Gulf.

7. India-Egypt Military Exercise ‘Cyclone-III’:
India and Egypt recently conducted a joint military exercise
‘Cyclone-III’ to strengthen defense cooperation and interoperability between
their armed forces. The exercise focused on counter-terrorism, coastal security
and joint operational strategies.

8. India’s first indigenous biochemical plant ‘Srijanam’:
AIIMS New Delhi has commissioned India’s first indigenous
biochemical plant ‘Srijanam’, which focuses on manufacturing essential
biochemical compounds for medical and industrial applications. The initiative
aims to increase India’s self-reliance in biochemical research and production.

9. Atomic Energy Commission’s tenure extended:
The Government of India has extended the tenure of the
Atomic Energy Commission from 2025 to 2028 to ensure steady progress of nuclear
power projects. This decision will accelerate long-term research, development
and implementation of nuclear power initiatives.

विस्तार:
परमाणु

10. India’s rank in Logistics Performance Index 2023:
India has secured 22nd position in the International
Shipments category in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2023.
This reflects the improvements in India’s supply chain efficiency,
infrastructure and trade facilitation.

UNESCO has designated 13th February as ‘World Radio Day’ to
highlight the importance of radio as a medium for communication, information
dissemination and public participation. The day celebrates the role of radio in
shaping societies and promoting freedom of expression.

12. IIT Madras and ISRO develop aerospace-grade
semiconductor chip:
IIT Madras, in collaboration with ISRO, has developed
India’s first aerospace-grade semiconductor chip to enhance the country’s
self-reliance in space technology. The chip is designed for high-performance
applications in the satellite, defence and aviation sectors.

13. India’s rank in Corruption Perceptions Index 2024:
India is ranked 96th out of 180 countries in Transparency
International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, indicating the need for
anti-corruption measures. This ranking reflects the country’s progress and
ongoing challenges in improving transparency and governance.

14. Meghalaya to host 39th National Games:
Meghalaya has been selected to host the 39th National Games,
which will provide a platform for Indian athletes to participate in various
sports. The event will boost sports infrastructure, tourism and youth
participation in the northeastern state.

15. 660 MW Thermal Power Project in Bulandshahr:
THDC India Limited has commissioned a 660 MW Thermal Power
Project in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, to increase the power generation
capacity of the region. The project aims to meet the growing power demand and
support industrial and domestic power supply.
